Sean Dixon is a New York City–based composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose work bridges the worlds of jazz, pop, classical, and experimental sound. A touring member of Gotye’s Ondioline Orchestra and Zammuto, he has performed across a dozen countries and graced international stages including Trans Musicales (France), Mona Foma (Tasmania), and River to River (USA). Since arriving in New York in 1995, following studies at the Manhattan School of Music and The New School, Sean co-founded The Chesterfields with longtime collaborator Scott Sharrard and became a fixture in the city’s creative community—cultivating deep collaborations with songwriters and artists spanning jazz, blues, R&B, and beyond.
His performance and recording credits include a wide spectrum of acclaimed artists such as Amy Helm, Michael Bearden, Jackson Browne, Wyclef Jean, Kristen Chenoweth, Maxwell, Doyle Bramhall II, Aloe Blacc, Alice Smith, Common, Angelique Kidjo, Ana Gasteyer, Julian Fleisher, and many others. His collaborations also extend deeply into West African traditions, having worked with Famoro Dioubate’s Kakande, Mory Kante, Missia Saran Dioubate, Sekouba Bambino, and Yacouba Sissoko of Guinea—relationships that have profoundly shaped his rhythmic sensibility and global musical outlook.
In recent years, Sean has expanded his role as a producer and engineer, working closely with contemporary composer Andy Akiho, The Sandbox Percussion Quartet, The Omaha Symphony, and the Imani Winds. These collaborations have collectively earned seven Grammy nominations, including two personal nominations for Sean in the Classical Compendium category in 2023 and 2024.
Over the course of 2025, Sean has further diversified his production and performance portfolio—producing a full-length project for alternative indie artist Ryan Delmonico, collaborating with NYC’s beloved children’s music ensemble Ramblin’ Dan and the Freewheelin’ Band, and performing as a percussionist and cast member in the premiere of The Cortege in Los Angeles. Balancing performance with production, Sean continues to shape sound with a rare blend of technical precision, rhythmic intuition, and collaborative artistry.
